Student nurse placement programme

Our East Tamaki Healthcare (ETHC) nursing team works with both Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Auckland (UOA) to provide clinical placements to student nurses in their final year.

We do this for many reasons, the two most positive reasons being that of
  • work force development and

  • the joy of watching students grow in confidence, knowledge and skills in the time they spend within our clinics.
By having undergraduate nursing students working alongside our own nursing staff, both parties have the opportunity to learn from each other. Our own nursing knowledge is strengthened and the nurses who work as preceptors gain valuable experience and personal satisfaction during these clinical placements.

We willingly offer placements to nursing students who have shown an interest in primary health care. During a student nurse's time with ETHC they are able see the scope of the primary health care nursing role, and the impact primary healthcare can have on the health and wellbeing of the population. Their confidence, knowledge and skills are enhanced in the valuable final year of their nursing education.
